This way, you can travel confidently through Forest Grove and Aloha, knowing your new Dodge Durango for sale at Tonkin Hillsboro Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM isn’t at risk of overheating. Wondering how to check car oil levels? Read our quick guide below!
Check Your Car’s Oil Level in Four Steps
It’s important to note that many new model-year cars include an electronic oil monitor, so you don’t have to check oil levels manually. If you’re not sure if your car is equipped with one of these monitors, read your owner’s manual or ask one of our service technicians near Beaverton for assistance.
If you’re checking the oil manually, follow these steps:
- Park your vehicle on a flat surface, turn the engine off, and allow it to cool down.
- Open the hood and pull the dipstick out of the engine.
- Clean the oil off the end of the dipstick.
- Place the dipstick back into its slot, then remove it again and examine both sides to check the oil level.
The markings on dipsticks vary, but generally, if the oil streak is between two marks or within a cross-hatched area, the level is correct. If you need to add more oil, make sure you’re adding the recommended oil listed in your owner’s manual, such as synthetic or a synthetic blend. Remove the oil filler cap, then add oil a little at a time until the dipstick indicates you’ve reached the proper level.
